June 3, 2010 (MMD Newswire) -- WORLD ANIMAL DAY - 4 OCTOBER
World Animal Day presents a wonderful opportunity for everyone who cares about animals to be seen standing united with animal advocates around the world in order to heighten public awareness of animal issues - an opportunity far too good to miss. World Animal Day is not linked to any one individual, organisation or campaign, but belongs to everyone. Increased awareness of animal issues will eventually lead the way to improved standards of welfare throughout the globe - and what an achievement that will be. Be inspired to get involved by reading reports about some of last year's events to highlight animal welfare issues and fundraise, that were organised by large multi-national organisations right through to small grass roots groups with very limited means. Simply follow the links at the top of the website home page to World Animal Day 2009 and previous years. In Costa Rica's capital, the Mayor of San Jose unveiled 6 monuments to honor stray dogs and gave an excellent speech to the crowd about the need to promote animal welfare. At Colombia's Bioparque La Reserva, families spent an unforgettable day full of creativity, fun and learning which included a tour of all the exhibits, talks and workshops. In Karachi, Pakistan, the Ministry of Livestock held a seminar attended by many distinguished guests followed by a march accompanied by various species of animals and birds. K9 Magazine publisher and former professional dog trainer, Ryan O'Meara is one of 71 World Animal Day Ambassadors representing 63 countries - all of whom are working hard to raise awareness of World Animal Day in their own countries. The aim of www.worldanimalday.org.uk is to encourage everybody to use this special day to commemorate their love and respect for animals and celebrate our special relationship with the animal kingdom. The 'Get Involved' section of the website includes plenty of ideas and useful resources to help you organise a successful World Animal Day event. Many of the ideas are relatively easy to organise, however, for those who want to be more adventurous, there are also some that require a little more time and effort - but with some keen helpers on board anything is possible - the sky's the limit.
